Texas Newswatch Green Burials Garrett Sanders

.

This is one of the stories i have done for Texas Newswatch, here at the university of Texas at Austin. This particular story is about the green burial option people have now. Watch and give me your thoughts. There is an extra 10 seconds tacked onto the end of the video, that is called pad time that gives the director time to switch back to the anchors once the piece is finished without the screen turning black.

I worked in news for a few years and here’s my critique if you want it: Your VO was a little bit rigid towards the end. When you’re reading you need to have more emphasis at some points and also, slow down your read. As you know, this comes with practice. You would be reading a script if you were doing this professionally so you’ll no doubt get better at it. Your stand-up (by the casket) was good.

All in all good job. Thanks for sharing. Good luck.

Very nice standup. It’s funny since I don’t hear a southern accent on any news reporter but you do sound professional reporting. I might do this someday.

@CowboyTD …That is odd youtube did that. All in all it was really good though even with the issues that you were having and getting through them.

They tell us to do it all formal like that. Trust me, i would much rather make this with more of a cordial tone.

not bad man but it sounds like your reading from a paper. you should try to relax and let the words flow.

Yeah man, this was all me, reporting, shooting and editing. I have been having trouble with the mics and I had to use the stick mike on the ladies at the end so you can definitely tell difference in sound levels. The piece sounds and looks a lot better on Final Cut before moving it to Youtube. Youtube made the video quality a little worse and for some reason cut out the wind chimes at the very first of the piece.

Good Job Garrett! Nice little story there. Not sure if you do all the work as far as editing and everything for the video, but some of the sound bites could be a little smoother/equalized. Other than that it is well put together with good transitions and a good storyline. I would be interested in seeing more of your work. Maybe even share with you some of mine if you don’t mind. I will be a junior next year so I will just be getting in some of the classes where I will be creating packages.
