Super blue blood moon eclipse to occur for the first time in 150 years

.

On January 31, turn your eyes to the sky, because the moon is going to do something that it hasn’t done in a century and a half. On the last day of the month, lucky celestial viewers are going to witness a super blue blood moon eclipse.

So what is a super blue blood moon eclipse? Let’s break it down. The supermoon is when the full moon is closest to the Earth, so it looks extremely bright and big. A blue moon is when the moon is full for a second time in a calendar month. Then, while all… View full post on Inhabitat – Green Design, Innovation, Architecture, Green Building

Scientists warn new “super malaria” in SE Asia poses alarming global threat

If you’re planning a trip to South East Asia, you may want to reconsider your itinerary. An evolved form of malaria which is resistant to anti-malaria medication is spreading at an “alarming global rate,” according to scientists. The parasite was first documented in Cambodia but quickly migrated to other regions. Researchers predict mass casualties should the “super malaria” spread to Africa, where over 90 percent of cases occur.

The “super malaria” is more dangerous than the original… View full post on Inhabitat – Green Design, Innovation, Architecture, Green Building

Airstream unveils super compact, lightweight travel trailer for $30K

Light as a feather! Airstream has just unveiled the ultra-lightweight Nest, a 16-foot travel trailer that weighs just 2,500 pounds. The company has ditched its iconic polished aluminum for a molded fiberglass in order to create the ultimate in minimalist campervan design.

Although the beloved trailer manufacturer has stayed true to its shiny silver aluminum cladding for almost a century, Nest’s molded fiberglass body makes the camper much lighter and more aerodynamic. At just 2,500… View full post on Inhabitat – Green Design, Innovation, Architecture, Green BuildingEco funeral – Inhabitat – Green Design, Innovation, Architecture, Green Building

Scientists invent graphene paint that makes your house super efficient

Graphene – the strongest material known to science – has been used to create everything from condoms to night-vision contact lenses. Thanks to the ingenuity of Spain-based The Graphene Company, paint containing the world’s “thinnest, strongest and most conductive” substance will soon be sold on shelves in the UK. Because Graphenstone is composed of a lime-base with a hexagonal lattice of carbon atoms one atom thick, it is incredibly thin, beneficial for the environment and capable of improving… View full post on Inhabitat – Green Design, Innovation, Architecture, Green BuildingEco funeral – Inhabitat – Green Design, Innovation, Architecture, Green Building

California’s super bloom is so gigantic you can see it from space

New super batteries could charge phones in seconds and electric cars in minutes

A scientific breakthrough at the University of Surrey could completely change how we charge our devices. Researchers developed a new material that could be used to create supercapacitors 1,000 to 10,000 times more powerful than conventional batteries. The new super batteries would also be safer, greener, faster charging and more efficient.

The breakthrough is made possible by a special type of polymer that is, surprisingly enough, adapted from the principles used to make soft contact lenses…. 16-year-old South African girl invents drought-fighting super material from orange peels

In the midst of South Africa’s worst drought in recorded history, one Johannesburg schoolgirl has created a super absorbent polymer that could change the way crops are grown. Kiara Nirghin recently won the Google Science Fair’s Community Impact Award for the Middle East and Africa with her submission “No More Thirsty Crops.”

Dangerous super bacteria found in Rio waters before Summer Olympics

Two new academic studies shared with Reuters news show that scientists have found drug-resistant “super bacteria” off the beaches of Rio de Janeiro, some of which will be hosting Olympic events in August. These deadly microbes, normally only found in hospital settings, have been turning up in the waters near some of the city’s most popular tourist destinations. Though city officials are blaming illegal dumping for the contamination, it more likely has something to do with the fact that… View full post on Inhabitat – Green Design, Innovation, Architecture, Green BuildingEco funeral – Inhabitat – Green Design, Innovation, Architecture, Green Building
