California to become the first US state to require solar panels on new homes

California is expected to require solar energy for just about all new homes, the Orange County Register reported. The California Energy Commission is slated to vote this Wednesday on new standards mandating almost all new houses be equipped with solar panels, beginning in 2020, and it’s expected they’ll approve the move.

Denver might require green roofs on new large buildings

In November, voters in Denver will go to the polls to approve or disapprove a new ballot initiative that would require most new buildings of at least 25,000 square feet to include a “green roof,” one covered with trees, vegetables or other plants that adds aesthetic value and helps to counteract the urban heat island effect.
