California to become the first US state to require solar panels on new homes

California is expected to require solar energy for just about all new homes, the Orange County Register reported. The California Energy Commission is slated to vote this Wednesday on new standards mandating almost all new houses be equipped with solar panels, beginning in 2020, and it’s expected they’ll approve the move.

rsted’s massive new offshore wind farm will generate power for 1 million homes

Offshore wind farms keep getting bigger and bigger. Ørsted, formerly DONG Energy, started construction on Hornsea Project One, the latest offshore wind project poised to claim the trophy. They installed the first of 174 monopiles at the wind farm off the coast of Yorkshire in the United Kingdom. When Hornsea Project One is operational, it could produce power for more than one million homes.

New Enphase solar inverters could power homes without batteries even if the grid goes down

Most residential solar energy inverters shut off for safety reasons if the grid powers down. But Enphase Energy could offer inverters that allow a home to continue to be powered by solar if the grid crashes. According to Electrek, Enphase’s Chief Product Officer Raghu Belur even suggested the inverters could let solar energize a home without a grid or batteries.
