Reebok develops plant-based sneakers made of cotton and corn

In an act aimed squarely at sustainability in an industry known for heavy environmental impact, Reebok has created the first shoe made from plant-based materials. The Cotton + Corn initiative, announced in 2017 by the sporting-goods giant, touted the decision to move to plant-based materials as a way to clean up both production and post-consumer use in an industry that has always relied on petroleum in manufacturing.

This all-natural native corn is bejeweled with brilliantly colored kernels

Through his quest to reconnect, Barnes isolated several traditional strains of seeds that fell to the wayside his ancestors traveled to what’s now Oklahoma in the 1800′s. Through years of selective growing, Barnes grew corn that looks bejeweled, creating a colorful celebration of native heirloom varieties of corn.
