Shocking Caribbean photos reveal a “sea of plastic and Styrofoam”

We hear about the issue of ocean plastic a lot, but new photographs offer a visual image to demonstrate just how pervasive the pollution is. Roatán-based photographer Caroline Power shared pictures on Facebook taken near the Caribbean island belonging to Honduras, revealing plastic bgas, utensils, and bottles floating in the water. Power said, “This has to stop.”

Desperation and fear mount in Irma-ravaged Caribbean

Over the past few days, Hurricane Irma has devastated islands in the Caribbean, Cuba, and parts of Florida. The Category 5 hurricane has since downgraded to a tropical storm, but the damage it caused will take years to recover from. On the island of Barbuda, for example, “95 percent” of buildings were destroyed. And on the islands of Saint Martin and Saint Barthelemy, residents don’t even have time to breathe, as another Category 4 storm — named Jose — is barreling toward the territories.
