A new pagoda-like library in China’s megacity of Shenzhen sweeps visitors above the tree canopy with an elevated walkway. Located in Xiangmi Park, a densely forested area originally used as an agricultural research center, the Xiangmi Park Science Library celebrates its verdant surroundings with a “treetop walk” and an abundance of glazing. MoMA PS1 unveils futuristic solar canopy that reacts to heat, sunlight, and movement

MoMA PS1 just completed one of its most experimental and coolest installations to date. The Long Island City-based contemporary art museum wrapped up construction on Lumen, an immersive and interactive installation made with solar-active canopies that glow at night. Designed by Jenny Sabin Studio, Lumen reacts like a living entity to light, heat, and movement, creating different engaging environments from day to night.

Manetti Shrem Museum’s 50,000-square-foot canopy was inspired by the texture of the agrarian landscape

The new Manetti Shrem Museum features a 50,000-square-foot permeable canopy that extends over the sides of the building and blurs its edges. Architecture firms Bohlin Cywinski Jackson and SO-IL designed the new museum for the University of California in Davis, and created a space with interiors activated by changing light, seasons and interwoven curved and straight sections.
