300 artificial islands in Dubai, ‘The World,’ may get another chance

The World, an archipelago of 300 artificial countries planned for Dubai, met an untimely end right before the 2008 financial crisis. But construction is underway once again. The Guardian’s Oliver Wainwright reported, “After a decade in limbo, The World is back – with more ambitious plans than ever before.”

NASA confirms asteroid came from another solar system – and it’s incredibly bizarre

The presence of an elongated asteroid hurtling through our solar system prompted a call to action from observatories throughout the world. It’s the first confirmed object from another star according to NASA, and it may be as long as a quarter mile. And while the rocky asteroid may not really be piloted by aliens – it could give us clues into the formation of other solar systems.

California hit yet another record high in solar energy generation

In California, the solar power industry is having a field day. For the second time in as many years, the largest electricity grid in the state broke its own solar generation record with a whopping 8,030 megawatts (MW) output at 1:06pm local time July 12.
