Scientists all over Earth depend on sea ice data from United States military satellites. But one of those satellites recently broke down – and only three ageing ones remain. Even worse, earlier this year the United States Congress said a backup probe had to be dismantled because they didn’t want to pay to keep it in storage. Have you ever wanted to walk in the footsteps of Nelson Mandela, track cheetah on foot, or stroll with elephants — and other exotic creatures — in South Africa? Well, now’s your chance. Thanks to the efforts of over 200 volunteers, 19 National Parks, 17 nature reserves, and many other sites of natural, cultural and historical significance in South Africa be explored through Google Maps.
